Pazen Calls for Increased Focus on Public Safety

Denver, CO — As National Domestic Violence Awareness Month begins, District 2 residents are encouraged to come together to promote safety and reaffirm Paul Pazen's

commitment to making our neighborhoods safer for everyone.

While crime citywide is down across almost every major category, domestic violence remains a glaring exception. Nearly 7,660 domestic violence incidents were reported in Denver in 2025. That is up 3% from 2024 and 46% higher than in 2019, according to Denver Police Department data.

During his tenure as Denver's Chief of Police, Pazen led the creation of the department's reform initiatives, including the enhanced Domestic Violence Prevention Program to connect individuals to services and counseling to stop domestic violence before it

happens. Other initiatives include the successful nationally recognized STAR Program and the expansion of the Co-Responder Program.

With 27 years of law enforcement experience, Pazen is committed to:

  • Supporting community-based policing, knowing it builds trust between residents and officers and proactively addresses crime.

  • Developing and expanding programs that address the root causes of crime and promote safety without compromising rights.

If you or someone you know is affected by abuse, confidential support is available 24/7

through the National Domestic Violence Hotline or by calling 1-800-799-7233.
